Spear-Bearing (Stars on the Primary Angles)
The rules for this are:
- Any star in the 1st House or 10th House in any sign; and << — this is a requirement not an option
- Other stars in close proximity; and << — this is a requirement not an option
- Nocturnal stars as spear-bearers must rise after the guarded star while diurnal stars as spear-bearers must rise ahead of the guarded star.
How is “close proximity” defined? Sadly, it is not defined. That being said, we are allowed to use common sense in astrology but unfortunately common sense is in short supply for most of the people claiming to be astrologers.
Since the span of a sign is 30°, common sense dictates that “close proximity” must mean within 30°. We think “close proximity” is defined as 15° since 15° is the definition of concourse. The stars do not need to be in the same sign but they must be in close proximity. What does that look like?
Franklin D Roosevelt

Do we have a star in the 1st House or 10th House?
Yes, we have Mars in the Gemini 10th House meeting our first condition.
Next condition, are there any stars in “close proximity?”
Diurnal stars must rise before the guarded star. Nocturnal stars must rise after the guarded star. Jupiter and Saturn are diurnal stars and they are rising ahead Mars. They are in the right position but too distant being well over 30° from Mars so we must disqualify them.
Moon is in the correct position and is within 15° of Mars. Moon is spear-bearing for Mars. Franklin Roosevelt was governor of New York State and elected to four consecutive terms as president of the U.S.
Barack Obama

Yes, some Greeks would consider Mercury to be spear-bearing for Sun in the Leo 7th House. We do not. We see Jupiter at 0° in the Aquarius 1st House with sect-mate Saturn rising ahead of Jupiter and in close proximity. Saturn is spear-bearing for Jupiter.
Obama was a U.S. Senator and twice elected president of the U.S.
What does retrograde mean 100% of the time in 100% of charts no exceptions ever?
The chart is nocturnal. Saturn is domiciled in its night house Capricorn and more importantly Saturn is in its own bounds so Saturn answers to no one. In this instance, retrograde Saturn actually prevents bad things from happening to Obama.
Jupiter is merely the domicile ruler of the Pisces 2nd House. Jupiter indicates, but does not dictate. Venus as exaltation ruler is the domicile master of the Pisces 2nd House dictates what happens with the 2nd House.
We’ll address Jupiter retrograde later when we do a more in-depth analysis of figures and configurations since the Jupiter right trine Moon right sextile Mercury opposition Jupiter configuration is a character-trait configuration.
Bill Clinton

Venus is domiciled at 11° in the Libra 1st House. Sun in the Leo 11th House forms a figure by right sextile, but alas, the rays of Sun land ahead of Venus at 26° which is too far away. Also, Jupiter intervenes between Sun’s rays and Venus. We cannot use that form of spear-bearing.
However, Mars is in the 1st House which meets our primary condition and nocturnal sect-mate Venus rises after Mars in close proximity so Venus is spear-bearing for Mars.
Clinton was governor of Arkansas for several terms which is like being mayor of Rabbit Hash, Kentucky (yes, there really is such a place) before being twice elected president of the U.S.
I am curious what other factors confirm whether a person will actually have more fame, power or rank. I have 2 spear-bearers for Moon in the 10th (Mars and Saturn both in neutral to good condition) and Moon is afflicted. I assume I have a Mediocre chart.
Since Moon would be the star that is a candidate of being a guarded star, are the rules more restrictive? Moon is in the 10th at 9°. Venus is in the next sign at 5°. Saturn is in the previous sign at 26° degrees. Saturn would be rising before Moon. Venus would be trailing or chasing Moon. So would they qualify or are their more rules to this?
