Affliction by Placement
This comes in two forms. The first form is based on the concept of counteraction by placement. The second form is based on where the star is domiciled. When looking at counteraction by placement, we are looking at what some people call the “dispositor.” That concept is corrupted since it relies solely on the house ruler (meaning the domicile ruler) and not on the domicile master. Modern astrologers bastardized it further with their “final dispositor” nonsense where they chase their tails ’round and ’round and then botch the interpretation to boot.
Some people have created confusion by not understanding. In both cases here, the domicile master must be located in the 6th House or the 12th House or there is no affliction.
Affliction by Counteraction
Kamala Harris

Mercury in the Scorpio 6th House is in aversion to the Ascendant and cannot be the domicile master of the Gemini 1st House. Gemini has no exaltation ruler. The house rulers for the water trigon are Mercury (Gemini), Venus (Libra) and Saturn (Aquarius). We’ve disqualified Mercury. Our two candidates for domicile master of the 1st House are Venus and Saturn who both aspect Gemini. Since Venus is in the superior house it is Venus who gets the call.
Scorpio Mercury sextiles Virgo making Mercury domicile ruler and master. Mercury’s position in the 6th House is counteraction by placement afflicting Venus. As we said, an afflicted star can function as a barrier, glass-ceiling or obstacle depending on the houses it masters. At other times it worsens the affairs of a house or ruin the potential good of a house or creates myriad problems.
Afflicted Venus as domicile master of the Gemini 1st House effectively means whatever her life could have been gets ramped down a notch. We established earlier Jupiter is afflicted by the malefic rays of Mars and Saturn placing a limitation on what she can achieve for her career or causing problems with career. Venus is the domicile ruler and master of the Taurus 12th House creating a double-whammy. Afflicted Jupiter is ruled by afflicted Venus. Yes, you can yell, “Crit!” and role a 20-sided die.
Your house delineation principle for the 10th House is: “Domicile ruler and master of the 10th House in the 12th House.” The good news is we don’t have to guess what it means. It means that person will ruin or destroy their own career. That is what it meant 2,000 years ago. It will mean the same thing 2,000 years from now.
Affliction by Placement
Buddy Holly

Jupiter domiciled in the Sagittarius 12th House is afflicted by placement. Moon opposition Jupiter is misfortune. Waning Moon opposition Jupiter is even greater misfortune. Sun opposition Saturn is a difficult death. In this instance it also happened to be a violent death since Holly died in the crash of a privately chartered plane.
Note Sun as domicile ruler of the 8th House in the 9th House. This illustrates the reason for following the rules of astrology.
We use the original house meanings. We never use the perverted Modern astrology meanings or the corrupted “traditional” astrology meanings. The Greek phrase is “travel away from home” which idiots mistranslated as “foreign travel.” Even when the Greeks were talking about “foreign travel” to them it meant being in a different political jurisdiction or a different culture. The word “foreign” in Greek simply meant “alien” or “unfamiliar.”
If you insist on interpreting “travel” for the 9th House (and 3rd, 7th and 12th Houses) as exclusively going to a foreign country then you will botch chart interpretations and predictions. Holly was “traveling away from home.” Holly was in a different political jurisdiction. Holly was in a different culture. Anachronisms. It is nothing short of bizarrely absurd to suggest that Iowa (where his plane took off and crashed) is culturally similar to Texas where he was born because they were not then and are not now. To the Greeks, that is foreign travel.
Mars is the domicile master of the Leo 8th House. Saturn is domicile master of the Virgo 9th House. This chart indicates fame, but short lived, a difficult and violent death and Mars parked on the Lot of Exaltation in the 8th House tells us he’ll be more famous after he dies than when he was alive which is exactly what happened.
Reality Check

Domicile ruler of the 8th House in the 9th House.
This is the chart of a U.S citizen flying on a U.S. passenger plane from one U.S. city to her final destination in another U.S. city. She never made because the plane crashed and burned.
Still think the 9th House is “foreign travel?”
There’s no evidence to support any claim that the 9th House is “foreign travel.” The 9th House is simply “travel away from home” or “being away from home” and those are the two phrases we use in our judgments and interpretations.
When the domicile ruler of the 8th House is in the 9th House does that mean people die in plane crashes?
No, which is why we read the chart. All of it. We have many charts with the domicile ruler of the 8th House in the 9th House and most of them died peacefully or in hospital yet they all had one thing in common: none of them were anywhere near their birth-place.
Yes, that’s right. Those people relocated or moved far away from their birth-place and one of them really actually did relocate to a foreign country. You’re probably wondering why it shows up in their charts. Well, what is astrology?
Astrology is a rules-based scientific study of Fate. If relocating has a bearing on one’s fate and is connected to their death, then, yes, it’s quite likely (but not guaranteed) to show up in their chart. On the other hand, if relocating — even to a foreign country — has no bearing on their fate or their death then you’re not likely to see it in a chart.
