House Ranking
A quick review of the rank of houses: 1st, 10th, 7th, 4th, 11th, 5th, 9th, 3rd, 2nd, 8th, 6th and 12th.
In the interest of intellectual curiosity and honesty, you need to be aware of another scheme: 1st, 10th, 11th, 5th, 7th, 4th, 9th, 3rd, 2nd, 8th, 6th and 12th.
That scheme comes from Hesphaistio. We are lacking confidence in Hesphaistio since he drank Ptotle’s Kool-Aid®. While Hesphaistio mentions it, we don’t know if he actually used it. Speaking of schemes, you’ll see other systems floating around like the one from the idiot ibn-Ezra and they’re all wrong.
Trigon Rulers
Trigon rulers are not triplicity rulers. The trigon rulers are the house rulers of signs of the same element. This table explains it nicely.

Triplicity Rulers
Trigon rulers outrank triplicity rulers. Contrary to popular belief there are not three triplicity rulers. There’s only two triplicity rulers and a “helper.”

Sympathetic Signs
This is the last concept that needs to be addressed. There are four sets of sympathetic signs:
- Aries-Scorpio (Mars)
- Taurus-Libra (Venus)
- Cancer-Leo (Lights)
- Capricorn-Aquarius (Saturn)
They are called sympathetic signs because the houses hae t rulers are the same star. If you’re wondering how Cancer-Leo can be a sympathetic sign, go back and study the Thema Mundi.
Moon and Sun are not planets. They are the Lights and specifically the are the greater light that rules the day (Sun) and the lesser light that rules the night (Moon). For that reason, Cancer and Leo are sympathetic signs.
Joint Domicile Rulers
The concept of domicile rulers and masters says Sun does not always “rule” Leo. Mars does not always “rule” Aries. Venus does not always “rule” Libra. Moon does not always “rule” Cancer and sometimes Moon “rules” Scorpio.
This is not news.
Thats is how astrology was done for 1,200 years before the ass-clown Arabs and Persians totally messed it up.
Let’s look at the concept of joint domicile rulers to see what the Greeks were doing so we can get it right.
This is a simple IF…THEN…ELSE drill-down (although you could probably use SELECT CASE).
- If the house ruler does not aspect its house then it cannot be the domicile master so look at the exaltation ruler.
- If the exaltation ruler does not aspect the house or if there is no exaltation ruler then look at the trigon rulers.
- If the trigon rulers do not aspect the house then look at the triplicity rulers.
- If the triplicity rulers do not aspect the house then lettuce pray.
Again, sorry, folks, but this is not news.
The Arabs and Persians knew Sun does not always “rule” Leo and Mars does not always “rule” Aries and Venus does not always “rule” Libra and Moon does not always “rule” Cancer and sometimes Moon “rules” Scorpio….
…they just couldn’t understand how the Greeks went about choosing the “rulers” of the houses.
We know that to be true because they had a name for it: “the Almuten of the House.” The Arab and Persian astrologers have three basic problems.
First, they’re heavily contaminated by Ptotle who either didn’t understand trigon rulers or confused them with triplicity rulers (most likely) or dismissed them entirely so the Arabs and Persians know nothing about trigon rulers.
Second, the Arabs and Persians mistakenly believe house systems are used to interpret charts.
Finally, the Arabs and Persians can’t accurately translate the Greek texts in part because they’re using the wrong lexicons. As a result, the Arabs and Persians do not see a hierarchy of rulers who either do or do not aspect house. What they see is a “choice” of rulers who rule the house cusp.
John Lennon

Worse than that, the Arabs and Persians only see 3 choices, the house ruler, exaltation ruler and triplicity ruler and it doesn’t make any sense to them. In the chart above cast with Alcabitius Houses, the non-astrologer automatically assumes Venus rules the Libra 7th House and says, “Oh, ruler of the 7th in the 5th. Wonderful marriages!” except Lennon’s marriages totally sucked. That’s when they added the bound rulers and the decan/face rulers and started assigning point values +5 for house ruler, +4 for exaltation ruler, +3 for triplicity ruler, +2 for bound ruler and +1 for decan/face ruler.
Except that doesn’t work so they assigned points to each of the houses based on house ranking and it still didn’t work so they changed the house rankings and the next thing you know we have the U.S. Air Force Essential Dignities Point Scoring System Data Card to help us figure out who rules the houses in the chart except it’s all wrong.
John Lennon

To demonstrate the process we’ll use the chart of John Lennon because his chart incorporates every single step of the process. We are focusing solely on the Libra 7th House.
Rule #1 says: If the house ruler does not aspect its house then it cannot be the domicile master so look at the exaltation ruler.
Venus is the house ruler of Libra. Venus is in aversion in the Virgo 6th House and cannot be the domicile master of Libra. In aversion means makes no aspect. We use only co-presence, the hex, square, trine and opposition. There are no other aspects. No such thing as a “semi-sextile” or the goofy “quincunx” (aka “inconjunct”) or the “semihemidemisesquiseptitribidecinovile.”
Rule #2 says: If the exaltation ruler does not aspect the house or if there is no exaltation ruler then look at the trigon rulers.
Saturn in the Taurus 2nd House is in aversion to the 7th House so we go to the trigon rulers.
The trigon rulers are the house rulers of the signs of the same element. Libra is an air sign. The signs of the air element are Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. The house rulers are Mercury (Gemini), Venus (Libra) and Saturn (Aquarius). We have already disqualified Venus and Saturn. Our only remaining candidate is Mercury.
Mercury in the Scorpio 8th House is in aversion to the Libra 7th House.
Rule #3 says: If the trigon rulers do not aspect the house then look at the triplicity rulers.
Since Libra is an air sign we look at the air triplicity. The air triplicity is Mercury, Saturn and Jupiter. We already disqualified Mercury and Saturn. The only candidate we have available is air triplicity helper Jupiter.
Jupiter is in Taurus co-present with Saturn and thus in aversion.
Rule #4 says: If the triplicity rulers do not aspect the house then lettuce pray.
Actually, we shouldn’t joke about that. No, seriously, it ain’t cool.
You really do need to pray or do whatever gives you relief.
Fortunately, for John Lennon’s chart we have an “out” in the form of sympathetic signs. Taurus and Libra are in aversion to each other but since they have the same house ruler they are sympathetic. We can assign Saturn as the domicile master of the 7th House.
Why don’t we use Jupiter instead of Saturn?
Because the rules say you cannot. Astrology is a rules-based scientific study of Fate and the second you violate the rules you’ve moved from the realm of astrology and science into a whacked-out biker acid trip fantasy.
Since Saturn is the exaltation ruler of Libra, Saturn gets first dibs and has priority. If that were not true, then Saturn is still the domicile master since Saturn is an air trigon ruler and Jupiter is not and a trigon ruler outranks a triplicity ruler. Even if that were not true, Saturn is a bona fide air triplicity ruler while Jupiter is merely a helper and in that particular instance, Saturn outranks Jupiter.
Kamala Harris

You’re about to learn some of the reasons so many wannabe astrologers failed in their 2024 U.S. election predictions.
Mercury in Scorpio is in aversion to Gemini cannot be the domicile master.
The rules say we look at the exaltation ruler except Gemini is not a house of exaltation so we go directly to the trigon rulers.
Venus squares the 1st House from the 4th House. Saturn trines the 1st House from the 9th House. What do we do now? In the house ranking scheme the 4th House is superior to the 9th House so we assign Venus as the domicile master of the Gemini Ascendant.
One way to look at it is domicile rulers indicate; domicile masters dictate. It is Venus who controls what happens in Kamala’s life.
Let’s address the Libra 5th House. Venus is in aversion to the 5th House and cannot be the domicile master. Saturn is the exaltation ruler and trines the 9th House. Saturn is the domicile master of the Libra 5th House. Just to beat down the idiots who would start screaming, “Sun is in fall!” until they start frothing at the mouth and fall over backwards urinating and defecating themselves, we’ll prove to you that is not the case.
Isn’t Sun a diurnal star? Yes. Isn’t Libra a diurnal sign? Yes. Isn’t Saturn a diurnal star? Yes. Isn’t Saturn the domicile master of the 5th House? Yes. Okay, so we have a diurnal star (Sun) in a diurnal sign (Libra) ruled by a diurnal star (Saturn).
What the hell is the problem? No problem.
Let’s look at the Sagittarius 7th House. Domicile ruler Jupiter is in the Taurus the 12th House in aversion. Sagittarius is not a sign of exaltation. The fire trigon rulers are Mars (Aries) and Sun (Leo). Mars trines the 7th House from the 3rd House. Sun sextiles the 7th House from the 5th House. Due to the fact that the 5th House is superior in rank to the 3rd House, Sun is the domicile master of the 7th House. You have the domicile master of the 7th in the 5th.
What can you say about Kamala’s marriage? Good. Recall the 7th House is marriage while the 10th House is the spouse. Jupiter in Taurus sextiles Pisces on the 10th House making Jupiter both domicile ruler and master. Her husband is an attorney-at-law. We are just shocked, we tell you. Shocked! Who would have guessed her husband’s an attorney?
Donald Trump

In this chart:
1st House: Sun domicile ruler and master
2nd House: Mercury domicile ruler and master
3rd House: Venus domicile ruler and master
4th House: Mars domicile ruler and master
5th House: Jupiter domicile ruler and master
6th House: Saturn domicile ruler and master
7th House: Saturn domicile ruler, Jupiter domicile master
8th House: Jupiter domicile ruler, Venus domicile master
9th House: Mars domicile ruler and master
10th House: Venus domicile ruler and master
11th House: Mercury domicile ruler, Jupiter domicile master
12th House: Moon domicile ruler, Jupiter domicile master
See if you can figure out why that is true. If you can, you’ll be better than 98% of the people on the internet who refer to themselves as “astrologers.”
I would like to kindly ask for clarification on how to recognize correctly the planet being a house master. For example, in my natal chart my 7th house is Libra and my Venus is in the 12th house Pisces, in its own Venus decan and my 12th house is ruled by my 9th house Moon. I guess I could say my Venus is a neutral state? The main question, however, is whether my Venus is only my 7th house’s ruler or perhaps also the master? I have Saturn in my 10th house and Saturn is Libra’s exaltation ruler, 10th house is superior to 12th, so is Venus still the 7th’s master since it opposes 7th house? Or is this Saturn?
The 7th House is in aversion to the 12th House so Venus would only be the domicile ruler of Libra. The Domicile master would indeed be Saturn since Saturn aspects the 7th House by square and is the exaltation ruler (so he is next to use if the Domicile ruler is in aversion). So Saturn would be the Domicile master of your Libra 7th House.
