Mutual Reception
Horary astrology is a branch of astrology separate and apart from the mundane/natal branch of astrology.
We never take concepts, methods or techniques from horary astrology and apply them to mundane or natal charts since that automatically results in a misinterpretation of the chart.
For the same reason, we do not substitute the original meanings of natal chart houses with the meanings of houses in horary charts.
In the natal/mundane branch of astrology, mutual reception requires exaltation. These are the three forms of mutual reception you will use when interpreting a mundane chart or a natal chart:
- Communion
- Exaltation-exaltation
- House-exaltation
In natal and mundane charts there are no other forms of mutual reception.
Communion
Mercury as the common star can never be in communion.
Communion is a very special form of mutual reception which occurs when the house ruler is co-present with the exaltation ruler:
- Sun and Mars in Aries
- Moon and Venus in Taurus
- Moon and Jupiter in Cancer
- Venus and Saturn in Libra
- Mars and Saturn in Capricorn
- Venus and Jupiter in Pisces
Mutual Reception by Exaltation
This occurs when two stars occupy each other’s house of exaltation.
- Moon in Capricorn right trine Mars in Taurus
- Moon in Pisces right sextile Venus in Taurus
- Mercury in Taurus right trine Moon in Virgo
- Mercury in Cancer right sextile Jupiter in Virgo
- Venus in Capricorn right sextile Mars in Pisces
- Sun in Libra opposition Saturn in Aries
- Sun in Capricorn right square Mars in Aries
- Mars in Libra right square Saturn in Capricorn
- Jupiter in Aries right square Sun in Cancer
- Jupiter in Taurus right sextile Moon in the Cancer
- Jupiter in Capricorn opposition Mars in Cancer
- Saturn in Cancer right square Jupiter in Libra
What is the delineation for Sun opposition Saturn?
A difficult death. That’s what it means 100% of the time in 100% of charts barring some Wow! Factor mitigation.
Sun in Libra opposition Saturn in Aries is mutual reception by exaltation-exaltation. What is the delineation?
A difficult death, and in this instance often a violent death. That’s right. Mutual reception does not mitigate.
Mutual Reception by House-Exaltation
This happens when Star A occupies the house of Star B and Star B is in the exaltation of Star A.
Mercury in Sagittarius opposition Jupiter in Gemini is not mutual reception in a natal chart or in a mundane chart since neither Sagittarius nor Gemini are houses of exaltation.
But, Mercury in Pisces opposition Jupiter in Virgo is mutual reception because the Pisces is the house of Jupiter and Virgo is the exaltation of Mercury.
Jupiter in Aries right square Mars in Cancer is mutual reception because Aries is the house of Mars and Cancer is the exaltation of Jupiter.
Interpreting the Forms of Mutual Reception
If you’re coming from Modern astrology, Funshine astrology or “traditional” astrology then everything you know about mutual reception is wrong.
Whether mutual reception is beneficial or harmful depends entirely on the chart, not the aspect. Read. The. Chart.
Lee Harvey Oswald
Sun opposition Saturn is a difficult death 100% of the time in 100% of charts. Everybody grow up and get over it already. Lee Harvey Oswald had Sun opposition Saturn. Specifically, he had Sun in Libra opposition Saturn in Aries which is mutual reception by exaltation. How’d that work out for Oswald?
Well, he got shot. And died. A difficult death. Jupiter co-present with Saturn in Aries mitigated nothing. Jupiter was angular in the 10th House along with Saturn and still Jupiter did not mitigate.
To date, we have not seen an X-Factor mitigate Sun opposition Saturn.

Notice Moon in Capricorn opposition Mars in Cancer. That opposition means constant danger. Obtuse people have no place in astrology. Constant danger does not mean that someone is in danger every second of every minute of every hour of every day of every week of every month of their life. It just means they’re frequently in danger. People do sleep, right? Oh, wait…if someone was homeless and sleeping on rail-road tracks that might be dangerous.
Yes, you are allowed to use common sense in astrology. Please do. 98% of the internet who think they’re astrologers got diarrhea for brains.
Capricorn is the exaltation of Mars. Cancer is the house of Moon. That is mutual reception by house-exaltation.
How do you interpret mutual reception in this instance? That person voluntarily places themselves in constant danger by the things they do or endangers other people by the things they do.
Remember, contrary to the lies and deceit of Modern astrologers a chart is not about “me, myself, and I”. The chart is about you and all the people in your life whether you know those people or not.
Also, remember we prefer active-passive to masculine-feminine when discussing signs. Cancer is a water sign so it’s passive and the Capricorn is an earth sign and also passive. Glenn voluntarily places himself in constant danger of things that could happen to him (passive). In the fire and air signs it is likely in constant danger in way that would cause harm to other people (or things).
Glenn was not drafted in WW II. He volunteered. He was unhappy being based in California. He requested a voluntary transfer to a unit being deployed to the South Pacific. He flew 57 combat missions. After the war ended, he volunteered to fly in China. That’s also part of the Mars under Sun’s beams (things or people that are invisible, unseen, hidden, secret, internal or unknown). He volunteered to go to Korea and flew 63 combat missions. He often volunteered to fly very dangerous low-level reconnaissance flights over Chinese troops in Korea and also in China (hidden, secret, unknown things). He’s got the cameras mounted in the wings of the aircraft rolling shooting film of troop locations. Twice he came back to base with more than 250 bullet holes and anti-aircraft holes in his aircraft yet he never so much as suffered a scratch. They sent him back to the U.S. He volunteered to go back to Korea and few 27 more combat missions (shooting down 3 enemy aircraft). He volunteered to be a test-pilot flying Secret/Top Secret experimental aircraft (Mars under Sun’s beams again). On one flight, the cockpit suddenly depressurized. That can be catastrophic because the pilot loses consciousness and the plane crashes. Glenn managed to get the plane below an altitude of 10,000 feet and then safely land the plane. He volunteered to be an astronaut. While orbiting Earth just prior to re-entry, he got a warning light on his heat shield indicating the 3rd stage hadn’t fully separated from the command module. He might have gotten cooked on re-entry but it turns out it was a false warning.

That’s why he was never injured. Note Jupiter hurls his rays to his own bounds in Cancer and Capricorn. That’s another reason why he never suffered so much as a scratch.
We mention that in case you’re viewing the charts of people who survived combat unscathed or are about to go into combat. That is not the only “confluence” in the chart that you’d be looking at but it certainly is one of the things you’d be looking at.

No such thing as “detriment” or “fall”. Stop spreading misinformation. Well, at this stage of the game it’s disinformation. It was misinformation for centuries. It’s been known for more than 30 years now that there’s no such thing as “fall” or “detriment” so people continuing to spread the lie are engaging in disinformation, not misinformation.
Astrology is a rules-based scientific study of Fate. We follow the rules to the letter with no deviation ever. The rules say Virgo is a nocturnal sign. The rules also say Mercury is a common star and when the chart is diurnal Mercury becomes a member of the diurnal sect. The rules of astrology say that when the house ruler aspects its house it is both the domicile ruler and domicile master.
Glenn’s chart is diurnal. Mercury is part of the diurnal sect. Mercury aspects Virgo making Mercury both the domicile ruler and domicile master so Mercury calls the shots for the 10th House. Jupiter is a diurnal star in a nocturnal sign ruled by a diurnal star.
So, what’s the problem? No problem. The only problems are the phony astrologers manufacturing phony problems.
Now, in the interest of intellectual honesty, we cannot use this chart to disprove “detriment” because of the Null Hypothesis.
Notice Mercury and Jupiter are in mutual reception by exaltation since Virgo is the exaltation of Mercury and Cancer is the exaltation of Jupiter. That satisfies the Null Hypothesis. One other thing is Jupiter is in his own bounds and that also satisfies the Null Hypothesis. There’s a Billion charts that disprove “detriment” but this isn’t one of them due to the Null Hypothesis.

Who is the domicile master of the Gemini 7th House (marriage)?
Not Mercury. Gemini is not a house of exaltation so we go to the trigon rulers of the air signs Venus and Saturn. Venus is in the Gemini 7th House. Saturn squares the Gemini 7th House. Remember your rules. The 10th House is superior to the 7th House therefore Saturn is the domicile master of the 7th House of marriage.
Again, we have not provided significations for the stars and it might be some time before we get those up but some of the things Saturn signifies are longevity, and those things that are durable or long-lasting.
John Glenn was married to the same woman for 73 freaking years. Glenn died in hospital at age 95 with his wife of 73 years, both children and both grandchildren by his side.
Is Saturn harmed being in Virgo? Saturn is a diurnal star in a nocturnal sign ruled by a diurnal star and Saturn has affinity with earth signs as an earth trigon ruler (but not an earth triplicity ruler), so Saturn is not harmed at all.

What do you see?
Well, if you’re one of the World’s Worst Astrologers like Gian Paulo DiCocco you’ll violate all the rules of astrology and not see the things you need to see. DiCocco predicted Le Pen would be the next president of France (she lost) but somehow failed to predict that following the election she’d be arrested and convicted of embezzlement and sentenced to 4 years in prison, 2 years suspended, and 2 years under house arrest even though you can see that in the chart. Again, you have to follow the rules of astrology to see it instead of violating the rules and making stuff up as you go along.
The 1st rule of astrology is we never use house systems to interpret charts because we fail just like DiCocoo did. Every house system will put Moon in the 3rd House so no one sees the Moon-Mars opposition in the chart.
Capricorn Moon opposition Cancer Mars is mutual reception by house-exaltation. It worked out for John Glenn. Why didn’t it work out for Le Pen?

Where is the Moon-Mars opposition in Glenn’s chart? On the axis of the 2nd/8th Houses. What is the name of the 2nd House? The Gate to Hades. What is the name of the 8th House? The Idle Place or Death.
Wow! Lookie there! Your 50% of the way home. The 2nd House is income and the 8th House is death so Glenn voluntarily places himself in constant danger of death for money, but then that’s what happens when you’re flying combat missions and people are shooting at you.
Now you’re 90% of the way home. You just have to figure out how Moon-Opposition Mars works out for Glenn in the end and we partially covered that above.
Yes, astrology is soooooooooo freaking easy it ain’t even funny. Learn the rules; learn how to apply the rules; and then apply the rules to the chart you’re reading and the chart practically interprets itself for you.
Back to Marine Le Pen. Her Moon-Mars opposition is where? On the axis of the 10th/4th Houses. Their names are the Midheaven and Subterranean Place, ie, your foundation. The 10th House is career, reputation, social standing and rank and your spouse (but we can rule out spouse here) while the 4th House is your household, parents and support from the local community. Now you know what she’s risking.
Neither Moon nor Mars are in the bounds of Jupiter and probably just as well since she’d likely be in prison instead of under house arrest.
There’s one other factor here. The non-astrologer only sees Moon opposition Mars. What the real astrologer sees is Moon right square Saturn right square Mars opposition Moon. That’s the game changer because it’s no longer constant danger it’s constant danger creating self-destructive behavior which is what that aspect configuration means.
Ask a 1,000 different Modern astrologers and you’ll get 1,000 different interpretations…..no, wait,… 1,000 different subjective “personal views” on what they think it means and none of them are right.
Note stationary Saturn. When you follow the rules of astrology and do your station-checking like you’re supposed to do you’ll see Saturn turn retrograde a few days after she was born.
What does retrograde mean? It means that 100% of the time in 100% of charts no exceptions ever so if you don’t know what retrograde means you need to go to the Retrograde Motion tab and learn.
This is not the first legal issue Le Pen has had and it won’t be the last (tropical signs).
Do you see the awesome power of real astrology? Yeah, non-Ptolemaic Hellenistic astrology is where it’s at.
When you see an aspect have mutual reception, does that always indicate voluntary action?
Yes, Water Elemental, when it is an action or event-based aspect. If it’s a condition-based aspect, that’s a condition that begins at whatever age and lasts and long as indicated. Some conditions are related to different types of success maybe financial or career-related or indicate leadership or having power and control and being in mutual reception means those things go much more smoothly and are easily attainable.
Taurus Saturn and Capricorn Moon, normally Taurus and Capricorn do not communicate but here you have mutual reception so that trine will be beneficial and work out well.
If Capricorn and Taurus don’t communicate then how should I interpret my 10th house Saturn Capricorn trining my 2nd house Taurus Mars and Jupiter? Will this manifest as something positive like success or rather as an obstacle or misunderstanding?
For the mutual reception with Mars in Cancer opposition Moon in Capricorn would that aspect configuration be altered since Cancer commands Capricorn? I understand the mutual reception part where the action becomes voluntary.
I have a series of questions regarding mutual reception.
For one, how does mutual reception work when a star is only beholding another star and the aspect doesn’t perfect? And additionally, how do you interpret that when delineating houses like what was shown for the example of Prince.
Two things I also noticed were: The Moon-Mars opposition for Marine Le Penn does not perfect and John Glenn also has mutual reception between Mercury and Jupiter (house-exaltation or exaltation-exaltation Cancer/Virgo).
