Planetary Phase Cycles

Phase cycles give clues telling us when things happen to people in their lives. Make sure you thoroughly understand the phase cycles.

Some helpful hints when examining the phase cycles of the planets. Ignore:

  • Your birth time
  • Whether your chart is diurnal or nocturnal
  • The horizon line (running from the Ascending Degree to the Descending Degree)
  • The hemispheres and quadrants

Let’s be clear on the concept: You are examining the relationship of a planet to the Sun. That’s it. If you are looking at houses then you already failed because you’re doing it wrong and you’ll make the wrong interpretation.

We don’t care what house Sun is in and we don’t care what house the planet is in. We only care about the planet relative to Sun.

Due to Moon being special, as in being one of the lights and not a planet, we’ll deal with Moon separately. We’ll try to untangle the mess made by the Arab, Persian, Medieval and Renaissance astrologers and their silly oriental-occidental nonsense (which they didn’t even get right).

There is no such thing as “combustion” in a natal or mundane chart. Combustion is a concept that is unique to the other branch of astrology (election, inception and horary charts). Because that is true, it has no application in the natal/mundane branch. We might post an article later completely disproving the concept of combustion in natal and mundane charts.

However, there is a condition known as being “under Sun’s beams” and we’ll explain the difference between the two concepts. For brevity’s sake we’re going to abbreviate “under Sun’s beams” as “USB” (and we’ll remind you of that note later).
