The Subterranean Place

The 4th House System

We’ve arrived at the last of the four angles in the chart.

The Subterranean Place

4th House: Although called the subterranean place, it is also known as the foundation. For that reason it signifies your dwelling place and the community to which you are attached and both concepts are the foundation of your existence which is quite the opposite of those things you do that flow from the 10th House. It also represents your parents and those occupying your household like your spouse (or significant other) and children. Because the 4th House is “below the Earth” it is a house of death signifying your final resting place. It is your home in the sense of your household and has nothing to do with the real estate that you own, it can show living under the roof of another or incarceration in an institution like a prison.

5th House: Stars in the 5th House try to move away from the 4th House but are carried back by the diurnal motion. Just as the 2nd House is those things that support the 1st House (meaning you), the 5th House is those things that support you and your household, like children. The 5th House symbolizes accidental good luck that benefits you and your household. One way to view the difference between the 2nd House and the 5th House is that the 2nd House is the intended consequences of your intentional actions while the 5th House is the unintended consequences of your intentional actions. The 5th House is associated with children, financial windfalls and other windfalls that benefit you or your household, random acts of kindness done to you and friendships or associations resulting from accidental encounters.

3rd House: Stars here are carried toward the 4th House but get turned away which is why the 3rd House is a cadent house. Remember the 4th House is your household so the symbolism is the people who come into your home but don’t stay there like your brothers and sisters, your other relatives, fiends of the family and others who visit for a time but don’t remain. Like the 9th House, the 3rd House indicates being away from home or travel away from home. Unlike the 9th House where travel is mostly associated government, authority, wisdom and learning, the travel in the 3rd House is usually related to relatives or friends, visiting the land of your ancestors or returning to your hometown (assuming you’ve relocated). The 3rd House, as the Place of the Goddess in opposition to the 9th House Place of the God represents the lesser authority often construed as the mistress of the household.

    • I’d say it would indicate loosing one support’s base, perhaps?
I would think having anything in the 12th isn’t good but perhaps there are some exceptions to this rule? I would happily learn about them 🙂 and if I recall it correctly then I have read here or on Marco’s profile on the Quora website that politicians often have planets in the 12th but in such a case the 12th house needs to be in an active sign.

      • Well I have the Scales in the 12th which is an active sign so maybe. I also have the ruler of the 1st which is part of what my purpose in life is.

      • Hey, Aleksandra. The primary angles are the 1st and 10th Houses. The 1st is about your life. The 10th is about your career. If you’re looking at someone’s life, the 12th is bad. If you’re looking at someone’s career, the 12th is good. Usually. But not always. Ruler of the 10th in the 12th is just plain bad news not only for someone’s life but also bad news for their career. Ruler of the 11th in the 12th is not going to be good, either.

For everything else, you’re looking at what stars are in the 12th, what’s the sign, what do they rule and also very important is any star in the 6th?

Saturn in the 12th in Aries, Cancer, Leo, Libra, Capricorn or Aquarius is good. Saturn in the same signs in opposition to one or more stars in the 6th is not good.

A star in opposition to a house/sign is one thing but in when in opposition to stars that’s something altogether different.

        • I have Jupiter, Mars, Sun and Mercury in the 12th. The sign is Libra. Together the stars rules the following houses:

          Jupiter rules the 2nd, 5th, and 9th.
Mars rules the 1st and 6th.
Sun co-rules the 6th and rules the 10th.
          Mercury rules the 4th, 8th, and 11th.

There are no stars in the 6th. I see a comment from Reddit mention how Sun sextile the 10th can indicate leadership.
